The first Muslim voted in to the House of Representatives in the United States demanded that he be allowed to be sworn into office on the Koran instead of the Bible. The Library of Congress loaned him Thomas Jefferson’s personal copy of the Koran. The Muslem said having a Koran showed Jefferson, the third President of the United States, believed “wisdom could be gleaned from many sources.”
Why did Thomas Jefferson have a Koran? Because the Barbary Pirates from the Barbary Coast of Africa who were attacking United States ships were under the control of radical Islam. Thomas Jefferson wanted to know his enemy! Jefferson found that it was foolish to try to appease this enemy. He dealt strongly with them and put off militant Islam attack almost 200 years, until 9/11. (for more detail read Thomas Jefferson’s Koran by William Welty, Ph.D in Update magazine. Dr. Welby is the Executive Director of the ISV Foundation, a Biblical studies research organization in Fullerton, CA. He is also an adjunct professor of Middle Eastern Studies at The Koinonia Institute in Idaho.
I certainly wouldn’t trust anyone being sworn into government on the Koran (Quran)–the values of the Koran are the exact opposite of those of the Bible!
“The Quran calls for hatred, violence, submission, murder, and terrorism. The Quran calls for Muslims to kill non-Muslims, to terrorize non-Muslims and to fulfil their duty to wage war: violent jihad. Jihad is a duty for every Muslim, Islam is to rule the world – by the sword. The Quran is clearly anti-Semitic, describing Jews as monkeys and pigs.” In a speech by Geert Wilders on September 28, 2008, chairman Party for Freedom, the Netherlands, at the Four Seasons, New York, introducing an Alliance of Patriots
There is a difference between appeasement and compromise. Appeasement is foolish and often the result of fear. But we should not be afraid: “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Psalm 118:6 It is God we should fear: “But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.” Luke 12:5
God doesn’t want us to be afraid, only believe Him: “”If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?” Jeremiah 12:5
Being bold is against human nature, but with God’s help we can be bold: “The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” Proverbs 28:1
We can be wise and bold instead of foolish and fearful. Consider if you are appeasing anyone. Pray also for the nations of the world that are appeasing the enemy.
