* The Parable of the Hidden Treasure
Matthew 13:44
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all that he had and bought the field.”
1. Where was the treasure hidden? (in a field)
2. Who found the treasure? (a man)
3. What did the man do when he found the treasure? (he hid it again and bought the field)
4. How important was that field to the man? What did he sell in order to buy it? (all that he had)
5. Why is the kingdom of heaven like a treasure? (it is very valuable, the man sold all that he had in order to get it)
6. What is the kingdom of heaven? (It is wherever God’s will be done. Jesus is coming back. Someday there will be an actual kingdom where Jesus is King, but it also is something that can happen anytime–anytime we ask Jesus into our hearts, it is knowing Jesus, having Him live in our hearts, having Him forgive our sins, having God as our lives forever.)
7. How valuable is the kingdom of heaven to us? (“like a treasure")
Jesus is saying that the kingdom of heaven is so valuable it is worth selling everything that you have in order to get it. Example of Paul: Philippians 3:7-11
Matthew 13:45-46
“The kingdom of heaven is like a salesman looking for fine pearls. (46 When he found one of great value, he went
away and sold everything he had and bought it.”
1. What was the salesman looking for? (fine pearls)
2. What did he find? (a pearl of great value)
3. What did the salesman do when he found the pearl of great value? (went away and sold everything he had and bought it)
4. Jesus said the kingdom of heaven was like the pearl of great value. What is the kingdom of heaven? (knowing Jesus, having Him live in our heart)
5. Why is the kingdom of heaven like the pearl of great price? (both are of great value–worth selling everything for. Jesus is saying that the kingdom of heaven is so valuable it is worth selling everything for)
