Bible Memory Verse:
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN? A Christian is someone who believes that Jesus Christ is God. To believe that Jesus is God means to worship and obey Him.
Jesus Christ was never created. He always was. Before He came to earth as a baby, He lived in heaven. When he came to earth He was still God, but He was also a human being. He chose to not use all the power He had. Instead, He listened to God the Father and did exactly what God the Father told Him to do. That is what He wants us to do–listen to God the Father and do exactly what He tells us to do. “By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.” John 5:30 “But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father who sent me.” John 8:16 “For I do not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.” John 23:49
When we talk about God, we are talking about one God. But this one God is three persons. He is God the Father, who is in heaven, God the Son (WHO IS GOD THE SON-THE SON OF GOD?), and God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God the Father or the Spirit of Jesus.
WHY DID JESUS COME TO EARTH? Jesus came to earth because He (along with God the Father and the Holy Spirit) loved us so much that He wanted to die to pay for our sins. Only Someone who was perfect could die for our sins–that is why He had to come Himself. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Jesus said that he was the way, the truth and the life. He is the only way to God the Father. No one comes to the Father except through Him. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 He is the only One who speaks truth all the time. He is the only way to eternal life in heaven.
WHERE IS JESUS NOW? Right now, He is in heaven sitting at the right hand of God the Father. “Exalted to the right hand of God…” Acts 2:33 “and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you–even Jesus. He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.” Acts 3:20-21
WHAT IS JESUS DOING NOW? Jesus is praying for us: “For there is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.” 1 Timothy 2:5 “Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” Hebrews 7:25
He is also preparing a place in heaven for those who believe in Him. “In my Father’s house there are many rooms (dwelling places)…I am going there to prepare a place for you.” John 14:2
When Jesus went back to heaven, the Holy Spirit was sent to men. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever–the Spirit of truth…” John 14:16-17 The Holy Spirit is called the Counselor. Jesus is called the Counselor. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Truth. Jesus also calls Himself the truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God the Father and God the Son. “For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:11
Even though God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are separate, they are One God. They created the world together. They are the One God we are to praise and worship.
The Holy Spirit sees everything all at once and all the time. He is everywhere. No one else is everywhere. Angels can only be at one place at one time. Satan, the devil, can only be one place at one time. He has demons that do what he says–that is why he seems to be more than one place at a time. Satan was an angel who chose to disobey God. Disobedience to God is the cause of all the evil and suffering in the world. Satan always disobeys God so he always causes evil and suffering. Satan likes to deceive or trick us so sometimes he makes bad things seem like fun so we will start doing them. For instance, he will make drinking or smoking or taking drugs seem like fun, but really those things will end up causing us to die a lot sooner than we should. Jesus said that Satan was the father of lies and there was no truth in him. “…he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44
Someday Jesus is coming back in the clouds. He is coming to get everyone that believes in Him and take him or her to heaven. “Look, he is coming in the clouds, and every eye will see him…” Revelation 1:7 “Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Revelation 22:12
God wants everyone to become His child. If we believe in Jesus as God and ask Him to be Lord of our lives, we become His child. He will forgive us of all our sins and help us to live a life that is pleasing to Him. “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
Our Bible memory verse is: "Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life…” John 14:6
Jesus is “the way”. He is the only way to know God the Father. He also said in John 14:6 "No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus is “the truth”. Jesus is truth. Everything He says is truth. Everyone else either lies or is mistaken sometimes. Jesus always speaks truth. God cannot lie: “…God, who cannot lie…” Titus 1:2 Jesus is God so He cannot lie. Not only does He always speak truth, but also He is truth. He is the creator of all knowledge and truth: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” James 1:17
Jesus is: “the life”. He came to give us life and life more abundantly or life to the full: “…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 He came to give us a more rich full life now and everlasting life. We are going from glory to glory. That means that we are getting to know God more and more and will someday be like him: “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord…” 2 Corinthians 3:18; “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son…” Romans 8:29 We will someday live a perfect life in heaven.
God loved us so much that Jesus left His beautiful home in heaven to come down to this earth where sin has caused so much suffering and die for us so we could go to heaven to live forever with Him.
