“Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.” Luke 21:32
Matthew 24:32-35
“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its
leaves come out, you know that summer is near. (33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. (34 I tell you the truth, this generation shall not pass away until all these things have happened. (35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
Mark 13:28-31
“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. (29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. (30 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
(31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
Luke 21:29-33
“He told them this parable: ‘Look at the fig tree and all the trees. (30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. (31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
(32 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. (33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.’”
1. What is near when the leaves on the fig tree get tender and its leaves come out?
2. What is near when we see all these things that Jesus has been talking about happen?
3. What had Jesus been talking about when He tells the parable of the fig tree? (future– Matthew 24:1-31 Mark 13:1-27 Luke 21:5-28)
4. What does “this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.” Luke 21:32 mean? “If this reference is to the destruction of Jerusalem, which occurred about 40 years after Jesus spoke these words, “generation” is used in the ordinary sense of a normal life span. All these things were fulfilled in a preliminary sense in the A.D. destruction of Jerusalem. If the reference is to the second coming of Christ, “generation might indicate the Jewish people as a race (generation could mean race). Or it might refer to the future generation alive at the beginning of these things. It does not mean Jesus had a mistaken notion he was going to return immediately.” NIV Study Bible
